Stratford CT’s Posh Cash Wash Caught Polluting Bruce Brook

The manager of Posh Car Wash on Barnum Ave in Stratford Connecticut was caught red handed pumping chemicals into a storm drain. The storm drain led out in to Bruce Brook.

Thanks to complaint about a chemical spill, police arrived on the scene while the chemicals were still being discharged directly from Posh Car Wash and into the storm drain. The brook was found to be contaminated with the chemicals.

The manager was immediately arrested and released on bond.

I’m not pleased about this and I bet you are not either. I regularly went to Posh to get my oil changed and for a car wash. I think I may take my business elsewhere. I don’t want to support a local Stratford business that has absolutely no respect for the environment.

I can get my oil changed at Brake Centers of America on Barnum Ave in Stratford for a lot less money (currently $14.97) and wash my car in my car in my driveway with a detergent that is not harmful to the environment.

The manager did claim that the sewer that they usually discharge into (a sewer maintained by the Town of Stratford) was clogged and they needed to get rid of the chemicals. I have no idea if the manager was desperate to keep the car wash running and acting on his own or if he was told by the owners of Posh to dump the chemicals into the storm drain.

Dumping the chemicals into the storm drain was completely irresponsible and they should have come up with a better solution to the problem, even if it meant temporarily closing the doors until the issue was resolved.

Shame on Posh Car Wash! Fortunately for Posh most people have a short term memory, even if they do suffer a short term boycott from a percentage of their customers, they will soon return to for a convenient local wash and lube.
