Donate A Basket Of Food To Sterling Houses Food Pantry

Put on your list for this summer at least one good deed. There are lots of local food banks around Stratford CT but Sterling House is as local as a local organization gets.

Taking a ride up to Target on Hawley Lane can yield a basket full of canned, powdered, boxed, and other non-perishable food items.

Explain to your kids what you are doing and bring them with you to the grocery store. Let them pick through the soups and cereals that they think other people will enjoy. After leaving the store drive over to Sterling House. Let the kids help carry the bags up the steps of the side entrance. In the hall on the left hand side you will see a donation box for the food pantry.  That’s it. Easy.

I think this is a great way to teach philanthropy to your kids in an inexpensive and thoughtful way. My kids enjoy it and I hope you and your children will too.

Have you heard of the summer arts festival yet?

The Stratford Connecticut summer arts festival is in it’s third season and is sponsored by the Stratford Arts Commission and the Stratford Town Council.

The outdoor part of the festival kicks off this year with a free concert at Boothe park from the New Haven Symphony Orchestra. The date is July 11th at 7pm. This is the 2008 date. Check the link in the next paragraph for a current calendar.

You and your children are both invited to participate in the performance. You will be able download the audience participation songs. Rehearse your part at home and then the day of the concert bring your instrument, sheet music, stand and play along with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra.

I have not yet found the link for the download of the music. It may not be up yet. Here is a link to the calendar that gives more information about the audience participation. I imagine a link will appear there soon. If not the Stratford Arts Festival will send you the music ahead of time by email request.

There are lots of other high quality and entertaining productions to attend that are part of the Stratford Connecticut Summer Arts Festival. I’ll be sure to detail a couple more as part of what to do this summer for Stratford CT residents.

It’s decided. Donate To Sterling House’s Food Pantry

At the intersection of Huntington Avenue and Main Street in Stratford Connecticut is Paradise Green. Throughout the summer from June though August the town of Stratford CT puts on free concerts for music lovers.

Every week there is a different band and the styles range from country to swing to symphonies and everything in between.

Bring a blanket or maybe some low profile lawn chairs. Pack your dinner and favorite bottle of wine into a basket and have a picnic on the grass amongst fellow music lovers. Just remember to take your trash with you when the free concert is over.

This picnic basket will serve you well but we have really been thinking about picking up one of these picnic baskets . We really like the classic styling of these types of baskets and we think it would make us feel like we were taking part in a real "old-tyme" picnic.

The town of Stratford CT puts a schedule on their website. You can access the music schedule here . You’ll notice that most concerts at Paradise Green are on weeknights so you’ll have to plan accordingly. I actually prefer it that way. Getting out of the house with the kids on a random Thursday night is a great way to break the monotomy.

Nestled in the homes in Stratford Connecticut’s Paradise Green is Longbrook Park. What separates Longbrook Park from most of the other parks in the area is the shallow pond that is just big enough to look humongous to our kids but small enough for a comfortable walk around for adults.

At the advent of spring this year my oldest son William had his seventh birthday. Among the many presents that he received was a remote controlled boat. The boat is about 18" long and just perfect and for child’s play. You can check out the boat here.
They are pretty cheap. The batteries over the lifetime of the boat will likely cost you more.

He was super excited to take the toy boat out for a test run. My thoughts immediately turned to Longbrook Park’s calm and shallow body of water. I knew we would be able to walk around the pond on the paved path and the boat would not be able to get far away enough for us to get out of range.

My son thought it was a great idea and he turned out to very right. The boat and the pond were perfect for one another. He was able to steer the boat around the pond with no trouble. We spent about an hour there at Longbrook Park sitting in the grass and driving the boat in large circle and walking a slow circle around the pond.

We have to do that again soon. Having a boat like this one
really gives us on opportunity to get out play play this summer.

Todays first house is a large and seemingly well kept colonial. It’s a good size house at well over 2000 square feet. There are four bedrooms and two more finished rooms in the basement that have closets and could be used as bedrooms as well. The lot is a good size with .28 acres of property on a corner lot. This house is brand new on Stratford’s real estate market. It’s our second colonial of the day on a corner lot. Don’t miss the inground pool. Perfect for sweltering hot summer days like today. At 3328 square feet this house has more than enough room for most families. There are hardwood floors in all of the living areas. Todays third and final Stratford house for sale is the most inexpensive of the three. This raised ranch also has the most property at .38 acres but the least square footage at 1384 square feet. The kitchen as has an eat in kitchen as there is no formal dining room. That’s not surprising for a home this size. It also has central air and an attached garage. 1130 Cutspring Road Stratford CT
